Country Road always do great Winter dresses, with great long sleeves (imperative for Winter – short sleeved dresses in Winter ranges drive me bonkers. IT’S COLD. I WANT TO COVER MY ARMS.) Last year there were a couple I saw that I didn’t buy, including a gorgeous black and white one, and I was kicking myself for ages after it was long gone from the shops. I find that Country Road Winter dresses are always a nice, thick fabric which makes them flattering to wear because that thickness gives the dress structure on my figure and helps reign in the not so flattering parts. Fabric weight makes such a difference to me with dresses and skirts. I had ordered a similar styled dress to the one below from ASOS a few weeks ago, and the fabric was such a thin jersey it showed every single pudgy bit of skin and was oddly loose at the base of my back. So unflattering that it got returned straight away. Country Road also know how to effectively place a bit of rouching, which is one of my favourite things on an otherwise plain dress. It adds shape at the waistline and skims over the hips without drawing attention to the curviest part of my body.
I’ve been eyeing this dress off for ages. The charcoal grey is perfect for Winter, I just throw it on over tights and ankle boots and pop a colourful scarf and my coat over the top for a smart, low maintenance look. The stretchy fabric is so comfortable, and while it looks simple on the hanger, I find it so flattering to my shape. I would love to see it in more colours – some dark jewel tones perhaps (a dark scarlett or plum colour would rock my worl), but I know Courntry Road is known for their neutrals, so for now I’ll settle for grey. I nabbed this on sale after watching it and watching it and trying it on and putting it back on the hanger. They were having a thirty percent off sale for mailing list subscribers and I grabbed the last one in my size in the store. Original price was $149AUD but with thirty percent off I paid $104AUD.
I love it so much already, and I won’t make the mistake of passing up a Winter dress from Country Road again!
