I did something a few weeks ago that I don’t normally do. I did SUCH a blogger thing and I “reached out” to a company to see if they wanted to partner up for a post reviewing their products. I know, très blogger-ish, right? But here’s the thing. When you’re browsing the internet, specifically scrolling through your Facebook feed, and you see an ad that talks about creating your own chocolate block you click on it immediately. IMMEDIATELY. So when I got an email back from one of the founders of the company welcoming the opportunity to work with Chic To Do, I knew I was onto a good thing.
So without further ado, let me introduce you to the wonderful Sydney-based website that is Chocolab, a web-based company that lets you create your dream chocolate
So, if you haven’t already left me for dead and clicked through to their website, let me explain what exactly it is they do. Using the best Belgian chocolate around (made from 100% natural ingredients), Chocolab lets you fully customise a block of chocolate to your exact specifications. You start simple – decide on dark, milk or white chocolate, then start building your dream bar. Choose from things like confectionery, spices, dried fruit, nuts, and other delicious add-ins to create a chocolate bar that is EXACTLY what you want.
But wait! If you feel overwhelmed at the choices available (and there are a LOT, let me tell you), you can just ease into the customised chocolate experience by ordering a few of their ready made blocks of chocolate to see what your chocolate palate is like. Chocolab was generous enough to provide me with a voucher to order whatever I liked, so I chose a pre-made block and a customised one.
On the left is the chocolate bar I created. It’s milk chocolate (because obviously that’s the best kind of chocolate and I won’t be told any different), with Malteasers, Milo and butterscotch chips. I was going for a sort of Malt-O-Milk flavour. The butterscotch chips weren’t as sweet as I thought they would be, and really complemented the Malteaser/Milo flavour very nicely. On the right is the pre-made block, which is milk chocolate with peanut butter drops and pretzels, and it was delightfully delicious. The crunch of the pretzels and their slightly salty flavour, mixed with the very subtle peanut butter note and the milk chocolate base was a really nice flavour combination.
I’ve been so impressed with my Chocolab experience. I just really love the fact that there is a company out there who acknowledges that there are blocks of chocolate out there that haven’t even been dreamed of yet – it is just so on my chocolate wavelength. I mean, white chocolate with sherbet, Nerds and sour Gummy Worms? Make it! Dark chocolate with caramel fudge, toasted coconut and rice bubbles? Create it! The possibilities are endless, and you can even email them if you don’t see your favourite add-in on the site to see if they might be able to include it, which just blows things WIDE OPEN. The price point is so affordable as well. Pre-made blocks of chocolate range from $6.50 to $11.50, and the customised bars start at $7.50 just for the chocolate, with add-ins ranging from $1 to $2.50 per ingredient.
Chocolab’s shipping policy only had their customers’ best interests at heart as well – they won’t ship on a Friday to reduce the risk of exposure to extreme climate conditions, and you can add an ice block to your parcel at the checkout for a nominal fee. Once you order, shipping takes 2-5 days, and if you’re not home when it arrives it will go to an Australia Post depot for collection. Chocolab clearly understand how seriously we take our chocolate consumption, right? And if you want to receive some custom made chocolate for Christmas, or give it as a gift to someone else, you need to order it by today (GET ON IT), or by December 18th using express post shipping to receive it in time. There’s still time, people! Make a delicious, delicious chocolate block TODAY and you won’t regret it.
If you’re like me, and you think about chocolate A LOT, then this is the perfect website for you. Whether you want to create your own chocolate or give it as a gift to someone you know, there’s really no negative. You get chocolate, they get chocolate, everybody gets chocolate!
Special thanks to the folks at Chocolab for providing me with the voucher to purchase two products from their range.
