The 50

I saw this on Natalie’s blog and loved it. Such a good idea and a quick and easy way for people to learn a bit about the blogger!

So, here are mine:

1. What are you wearing?
A red Banana Republic t shirt that I bought in Hawaii that is soft as a baby’s bum, paired with red Myer Soho brand Summer PJ pants. My style, let me show you it.

2. Have you ever been in love?
Twice. My husband, since we were seventeen (although probably earlier than that and I just didn’t want to admit it) and since April, 2012 when a pink, confused little person was placed on my chest and peered up at me with her dark brown eyes looking very puzzled under the fluorescent lights of the hospital delivery room. I don’t remember what anyone else was doing, probably all that super glamourous after-birth stuff that happens. My husband was at my side, but as far as I was concerned, the room had gone completely silent as we stared at each other for the first time.

3. Have you even gone through a horrible breakup?

4. How tall are you?
Five foot five.

5. How much do you weigh?
The right amount for me.

6. Do you have tattoos?
No. I honestly can’t think of anything I would want on my body forever. Boring I know, and I have seen some really cool ones, but I just don’t think they’re for me. Plus, you know, needle driving in and out of your skin – no thanks.

7. Do you have piercings?
My ears. Belly piercings were all the rage in my teen years and I wanted one, but I knew my parents would kill me. And I was a bit of a chicken.

8. What is the ideal couple to you?
People who are best friends. I have always been happy that my husband and I were friends for a really long time before we started going out. I think a lot of people would benefit from this kind of gradual transition into a relationship. When you have a best friend, you can be brutally honest, call each other out on you respective shit, make each other laugh over stupid things, and exist in contented quiet. I think being friends with your partner as well as being in love with them is perfect way to go about things.

9. Your favourite TV show?
All time? Seinfeld, followed closely by Friends and Felicity. These days I really enjoy New Girl, The Mindy Project, The Newsroom, Parks & Recreation, and Hart of Dixie. I have always loved comedies because the ability to write a clever story and deliver the perfect joke is rare, so I appreciate when it’s done consistently well.

10. Your favourite band?
Well, my favourite band is probably either Snow Patrol or Florence + The Machine, but my favourite singers are Joshua Radin and Sara Bareilles. All three are great musicians who write the most beautifully emotive songs that seem to just reach out and grab me.

11. Something you’re missing?
Sleep. Having a small child means my sleep is often broken and I get to sleep in past 7am approximately never. I really look forward to the day when she is a teenager who sleeps til midday because then I can as well.

12. Your favourite song?
I have to pick just one?? I’ll say it’s all of these three: Dog Days are Over by Florence + the Machine, Lovely Tonight by Joshua Radin (the Wax Wings version) and I Choose You by Sara Bareilles.

13. How old are you?
32 and three quarters.

14. What’s your astrological sign?
Aquarius. My birthday is February 19, which is the cusp of Aquarius and Pisces, and I’ve always sat firmly in the Aquarius sign from a personality point of view.

15. An essential quality for a boyfriend?
Funny and kind. And my husband is both of these things, so phew!

16. Favourite Quote?
I have two:
“I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living, or get busy dying.” from The Shawshank Redemption.
“Bottom line is, even if you see ’em coming, you’re not ready for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it does. So what are we, helpless? Puppets? No. The big moments are gonna come. You can’t help that. It’s what you do afterwards that counts. That’s when you find out who you are. You’ll see what I mean.” – From Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, season 2 – Becoming, Part 1.

17. Favourite Actor?
Tom Hanks. I just love everything he does. Plus, he seems like the greatest human being ever.

18. Favourite Colour?
Green – a not too dark apple green shade.

19. Do you listen to music at a low or high volume?
Low-ish. I dislike overly loud music and TV most of the time, unless I’m at a party or in an exceptionally good mood.

20. Where do you go when you are sad?
Um, I don’t really know. I probably just mooch around at home or lie in bed. Bed is the greatest.

21. How long do you stay in the shower?
About five minutes. I’m a get in, get clean, get out kind of girl. If I’m washing my hair and stuff, then maybe ten minutes, but I don’t hang around in there.

22. How long does it take to get ready in the morning?
Fifteen or twenty minutes, max. I have to get my daughter up and ready three mornings a week as well, so I have my routine down pat. Motherhood: you learn to do everything fast, all the time.

23. Did you ever get in a fight?
Physical? No. Verbal, sure.

24. Something that seduces you in a man?
Tall, dark and handsome. Cliche, but it’s true. Luckily, again, my husband is all three.

25. The most repelling thing in a man?
Arrogance. You might think you’re better than me, but you’re probably not. And the fact that I can tell that’s what you think makes you seem super rude and basically an arse. Of course, that applies to both men and women.

26. Why do you have a blog?
I love to write, I love connecting with other people, and I’d love to somehow turn this into something successful on my own terms.

27. What are you afraid of?
Needles, birds/moths and sometimes thunder.

28. The last thing that made you cry?
I almost lost my cool yesterday after it took me nearly TWO HOURS to drive into the city to go to the night noodle markets. There was a fuck load of traffic, the pram had a flat tire, and I had to pay $25 for parking. I was over it before I’d even arrived. Luckily my husband was very kind and calmed me down and we had an enjoyable time anyway.

29. The last time you said “I love you”?
Today to my husband and daughter. I’m trying to teach my daughter to day it back which is adorable. I get a little smirk from her and a “loyomumma” whispered to me. But only sometimes. Most of the time she just pretends she can’t hear me.

30. What does your blog name mean?
Well, I launched this blog because I wanted a whole new name and look/feel. But I wanted something that was true to me. I always say “I’ve got so much shit to do!” because I do, a lot of the time (as we all do), and my husband joked “Call the blog Chic To Do” and there you go. I like the play on the work ‘shit’ – it classes it up a bit, and I am nothing if not someone who tries to make things a little bit classy.

31. The latest book you read?
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling. I enjoyed it, but I found it a little scattered – some parts memoir, some parts TV behind the scenes stuff. A little disjointed, but Mindy’s voice shone through regardless.

32. What are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading The Woman Who Stole My Life by Marian Keyes.

33. The latest TV series you watched?
The New Adventures of Old Christine, which I’ve been recording on Foxtel and binge watching. It’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ sitcom that ran from 2005 to 2010. She plays a single mother who lives with her young son and her brother. She’s still close friends with her ex, who begins dating a younger woman also named Christine. Her character is narcissistic, lazy, and believes everything revolves around her. It sounds tiresome, but Louis-Dreyfus plays the role so perfectly. The ensemble cast of Clark Gregg, Hamish Linklater and Wanda Sykes are the perfect mix of idiocy and snark, and it’s quite a funny little show.

34. The last person you talked to?
At time of writing, my mother because I’m staying over at her place.

35. Who did you last text with?
My husband, about Christmas.

36. Your favourite food?
This is really boring, but I love an American diner style meal: cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate malted milkshake. Comfort food in the extreme and totally satisfying. The chocolate milkshake MUST be a malted. So tasty.

37. Places you want to visit?
I really want to go back to Paris and Morocco, because we didn’t have enough time there in 2008 to do everything we wanted to do. But of places we haven’t been: Greece, Turkey, most of South America, Germany, Austria, Scandinavia and Croatia. Also I would love to take our daughter on a safari in Africa, but not until she’s older.

38. The last place you visited?
We just got back from two weeks in Hawaii – specifically Waikiki Beach, and it was gorgeous. If you ever get the chance to go to Hawaii, do it.

39. Are you currently sweet on someone?
Yep. Permanently.

40. The last person you kissed?
My husband before I left the house this afternoon.

41. The last insult you were told?
Hmmm, I honestly don’t remember.

42. Your favourite candy flavour?

43. Do you play an instrument?
Nope. I am not musically inclined.

44. Your favourite piece of jewellery?
Sounds cheesy, but I love my engagement ring. It’s exactly what I wanted, but I didn’t know that until I saw it. It’s a style that I hadn’t seen a lot of at the time (6 plus years ago), that is now quite popular, so I’m obviously well ahead of the trends. But anyway, it’s elegant without being flashy – a cushion cut diamond surrounded by little diamonds, with diamonds going down the band on either side. I won’t post a photo because that makes me feel too showy.

45. The last sport session you practiced?
I went for a little walk/jog just before dinner today. I fell off the exercise wagon the last couple of months, and I’m trying to get back on board.

46. The latest song you sang?
Meghan Trainor’s Lips Are Movin. I hate All About That Bass, but this new song from her is a total earworm.

47. Your favourite catch phrase?
I really like something I heard on Brooklyn Nine Nine that I am dying to use: “Put it in the suck it bucket.”

48. Have you ever used it?
Not yet. DYING TO.

49. Your last evening out?
We went into the Night Noodle Market yesterday afternoon and it was good. We tried food from Chin Chin, Longrain and a few others and it was all very tasty. I didn’t go last year, but I’ve heard this year is a lot better because they’ve got double the amount of stalls and spread it out a bit (although to be fair, one section is just a bar area where a soft drink will cost FIVE DOLLARS).

50. Who are you tagging?
No one. So that means everyone should do it!! I am nosy and I want to know all about you!

Until next time,
